- Balanced levels of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids to reduce skin inflammation
For decades, research has shown that Omega-6 fatty acid (linoleic acid, from sources such as corn and chicken fat), aids in maintaining healthy skin and hair coat. Most brands of pet food have satisfactory levels of Omega-6. However, if a dog or cat is subject to skin allergies or has an open cut, abrasion, or hot spot, high levels of Omega-6 can actually contribute to inflammation and discomfort. Under these conditions, Omega-3 fatty acids from natural flax oils play an important role in reducing skin inflammation and discomfort. Research indicates that Omega-6: Omega-3 ratios should be between 5:1 and 10:1. All Proformance formulas fall well within these ranges.
